Free flu shots for seniors

Miami Herald - November 27, 2005

Flu and pneumonia vaccines will be available free to seniors 65 and older from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, 18070 Collins Ave.

High-risk individuals who should be vaccinated against influenza include persons 65 and older, children 6 months to 35 months and residents and employees of nursing homes and other places that house people who are sick.

Children 6 months and older who have chronic heart or lung conditions, including asthma, need regular medical care or must be in a hospital due to such metabolic diseases as diabetes, chronic kidney disease or weakened immune system (HIV/AIDS), as well as women who will be pregnant during the flu season also are considered "high risk."

Pneumonia shots are $35 and flu shots are $20 for people 64 and younger.

The Flu Clinic was established as a result of a joint effort between Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman, District 4, the Miami-Dade County Health Department and Sunny Isles Beach.

For more information on other sites and dates providing flu vaccines in Miami-Dade County, call the Department of Health at 786-845-0550.
