The 30-second clip, released in Hong Kong, begins with footage of Johnson playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. The former NBA star was diagnosed with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, in 1991.
Johnson is later shown playing a game of 1-on-1 with Yao in which they push against each other and exchange high-fives.
"I have been living with HIV since 1991," Johnson says before the clip shows Yao teaching him how to use chopsticks as they share a meal on the basketball court.
Yao says in Mandarin, ``Hugging, shaking hands or eating together will not transmit HIV. Don't be afraid. Don't discriminate."
Quick study
Hideki Irabu has decided to retire from baseball, ending a career in which he won 13 games for the New York Yankees in 1998 and was once ridiculed by owner George Steinbrenner for failing to cover first base.
The 35-year-old right-hander asked Japan's Hanshin Tigers at the end of March to organize a news conference to announce his retirement, but the two sides have yet to agree on a date.
Line in the sand
Joe Atkins, a Minnesota state lawmaker, proposed that any professional athlete who uses steroids be barred from playing in a new Twins or Vikings stadium built at taxpayer expense. The proposal would cover home and visiting teams.
Atkins proposed random tests for banned substances.
"If you're going to play in our stadium, you're going to play by our rules," Atkins said Friday.
