"I have full-blown AIDS and AIDS dementia," Wilk, 42, told U.S. District John J. O'Sullivan during a Friday afternoon hearing on child pornography charges.
Wilk was in court for conspiracy to possess child pornography, obstruct justice, and witness tampering.
A bond hearing for Wilk will be held Tuesday.
Wilt has not yet been charged for the Thursday morning shooting of the BSO deputy.
U.S. Attorney Marcos Jimenez said it has not yet been decided whether Wilk will face state or federal charges for the fatal shooting.
In the meantime it is unlikely that Wilk, who is being held in the Miami federal detention center, will be released on bond.
"There is no doubt he is a grave danger to the community so we will seek pretrial detention," Jimenez said. "The events of yesterday are obvious."
Wilk, a failed actor and gun fanatic who has been unemployed for the last three years, received a court-appointed attorney.
He lives on monthly disability insurance income totaling $4,800 a month.
Wilk was a disheveled figure in court -- a far cry from the cocky man who smiled at neighbors - and even smiled during his mug shot - after being arrested for the shooting death of BSO deputy Todd Fatta.
Fatta, 33, was killed after he and other officers tried to enforce a search warrant at his Fort Lauderdale home. Deputy Angelo Cede±o was shot in the hand and shoulder.
Wilk used a high-powered rifle that penetrated Fatta's protective vest.
