MDs To Talk About AIDS To Students

Miami Herald (MH) - Sunday, May 12, 1991
Herald Staff

The Dade County Public School system has recruited more than 200 doctors to talk with students at every middle and high school as part of the district's AIDS Awareness Week, Monday through Friday.

"It's another angle," said board member Michael Krop. "Doctors are able to tell stories themselves. This is a medical problem, not just an educational problem."

Monday at 1 p.m., Pedro Zamora, a Dade graduate, and Sonia Singleton, a patient advocate at Jackson Memorial Hospital, will talk to the media about contracting and living with HIV infection.

All Dade schools have been encouraged to develop their own programs for the week. For more information on the week's activities, call the Dade school system's AIDS information office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 995-7118, or call your neighborhood school.

The AIDS information office can also provide more information on the district's AIDS curriculum and the school system's speakers bureau.
