Department of Housing and Urban Development officials said the funding signaled the federal agency's commitment to help communities design their own plans to meet the housing needs of poor individuals and families.
"The funding is an investment in Glendale's future [by] promoting economic development and job growth, increasing the supply of affordable housing and helping our most vulnerable neighbors," said Richard K. Rainey, HUD regional director.
Glendale will receive $4.08 million in community development block grants to stimulate job growth and business opportunities for lower-income families. Another $2.4 million is earmarked for creating affordable housing and $139,000 for emergency shelter and transitional housing for the homeless and poor.
