Robber Suspected of Using Tainted Syringe

Los Angeles Times - May 14 2002
Times Staff Reports

Los Angeles police arrested a man in the City of Commerce who is suspected of using a syringe allegedly contaminated with HIV to commit a series of robberies on Whittier Boulevard.

Ray Prado, 27, was taken into custody at his home, said Ed Funes, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The robberies occurred over three weeks, and there may have been others that so far have not been reported to police, Funes said. In some of the robberies, the suspect also was allegedly armed with a stun gun, police said.
