The event aims to raise more than $110,000 for three county AIDS charities, said Virginia Weber, program manager of the Ventura County AIDS Partnership.
Forty teams from church and business groups have already confirmed their participation, Weber said. A group of students from Channel Islands High School will act as crossing guards.
Individuals are welcome to participate, Weber said, and can sign up on the day of the event.
The 10K walk begins at 9 a.m. at Plaza Park, at the corner of Thompson Boulevard and Chestnut Street in Ventura. Bands will entertain crowds until 5 p.m.
The walk, which serves as the major HIV/AIDS fund-raiser for the county, will donate 85% of the money raised to AIDS Project Ventura County. The project provides a food pantry, dental care and mental health services for people with HIV and AIDS.
Another 10% of the money raised goes to the Ventura County AIDS Partnership, which raises money for AIDS prevention and care. The remainder goes to Christopher Place, the county's only AIDS residential care facility.
