International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - July 2, 1998
The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding is to allow both organizations to better identify and address the health needs of particularly vulnerable groups, such as refugee women and girls as well as adolescents.
Under the terms of the agreement, UNFPA will provide technical assistance and support for the assessment, monitoring and evaluation of needs and services. It will also supply appropriate equipment, drugs and educational materials.
For its part, the International Federation will invite its National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to participate in reproductive health activities and programmes promoted by both organizations and will provide UNFPA evaluation missions with logistical support, drawing on its expertise in coordinating aid to refugees and displaced people, as well as its worldwide network of Red Cross/Red Crescent volunteers and workers. It will be able to apply to UNFPA for financial support for new programmes.
The International Federation and the UNFPA will jointly develop strategies to promote reproductive health programmes, to combat sexual violence, to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmissible diseases and to enhance safe delivery for mothers-to-be.
