Mail and Guardian (Johannesburg) - August 4, 2000
Barry Streek
He told a conference on crime and human rights at the University of Western Cape that five years ago 182 prisoners had died from HIV/Aids.
In the first five months of this year, that figure had jumped to 440 prisoners.
It was estimated that the total would be about 1 100 by the end of the year.
In five years time we have estimated there will be 7 000 deaths a year and in 10 years time, 45 000 deaths due to HIV/Aids.
