The North Chicago-based medical product giant sued Act Up-Paris, claiming the group provided software and instructions on how to disable its Web site on the eve of the company's annual meeting in April.
The disagreement follows Abbott's decision not to register a heat-resistant version of its AIDS drug Kaletra in Thailand after the Thai government threatened to break Abbott's patents and allow the sale of cheaper drugs.
Act-Up Paris could not be reached for comment. Abbott was criticized by AIDS groups around the world for its action.
The decision by Abbott to drop the suit came after a meeting between Act Up-Paris and Abbott was convened by the International AIDS Society in Sydney during a conference over the weekend.
Abbott spokeswoman Jennifer Smoter said, "We dropped the suit as ACT Up-Paris acknowledged that communication via our Web site to doctors and patients is important."
