Like 'Rocky,' Morrison coming back for more

Chicago Tribune - July 19, 2006

Tommy Morrison--a few parts former fighter, one part former actor--is back. Or wants to be, anyway. You remember Morrison, 37, whose boxing career was derailed in 1996 after he revealed he had HIV. Six years earlier, Morrison had starred with Sylvester Stallone in "Rocky V" as Tommy "Machine" Gunn. That part had come three years after he beat George Foreman for the WBO heavyweight title. And that--like the Stallone vehicle--figured to be that. But no. Reports out of Philadelphia say the boxer claims he is HIV-free and wants to take a shot at "Iron" Mike Tyson. Morrison is 46-3-1 with 40 knockouts while Tyson and his facial tattoo stand at 50-6, 44 KO's. "He lives right down the road in Scottsdale [Ariz.]," Morrison told the Philadelphia Boxing Report. "I've got his number."
