Travelers reportedly to get anti-HIV kits

Chicago Tribune - November 24, 2002

SINGAPORE -- Singapore will hand out anti-HIV travel packs to men traveling alone to "high-risk" countries as part of its efforts to combat the disease that can lead to AIDS, the Straits Times newspaper said Saturday.

The packs, to be available from 2003, would contain information on the dangers of casual sex and could also contain condoms and toiletries. They may be distributed through tour operators, the paper said.

It did not name the "high-risk" countries.

Health authorities in the nation of 4 million said Friday that casual sex was the main cause of 189 new cases of HIV/AIDS in the first 10 months of this year, bringing the total number of Singaporeans infected to 1,788 as of October.
