Nikko Briteramos, a Huron University freshman basketball player, was arrested Tuesday and is in the Beadle County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bond. He was granted a court-appointed lawyer.
Another court appearance could be scheduled as early as today, said Mike Moore, Beadle County stateÆs attorney.
He attended St. Patrick's High School on Chicago's Northwest Side.
Briteramos tested positive for HIV when he tried to give blood in February, Beadle State's Atty. Michael Moore said.
Briteramos told health counselors Tuesday that he had been dating a girl for three weeks and had sex with her five times but did not tell her he has HIV, Moore said.
Two other women Briteramos identified as his sexual partners are HIV positive, but it is unclear whether he infected them, Moore said.
Tests on the girl in Tuesday's incident are not complete.
An additional 50 people were being tested who had sexual contact with the three, he said.
