PhotoImmune Biotechnology Presents HIV Preventative Vaccine Methodology at Medtech Insight's "Investment In Innovation" Boston Conference

Business Wire - October 6, 2005

HOUSTON -- PhotoImmune Biotechnology, Inc. has announced that it will be presenting at 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, October 11th at Medtech Insight's "Investment In Innovation (In3) BOSTON: A Preview of Early-Stage Medical Technology Companies" Conference, taking place October 10-11, 2005 at The Westin Copley Place Hotel in Boston, MA.

PhotoImmune will present its patented methodology that deactivates the HIV cell's ability to use reverse transcriptase to infect its host with the HIV-AIDS virus.

PhotoImmune's photo-labeling technique results in a complete but inactivated HIV virion particle. When this intact replicated HIV virion is exposed to the body's host cells, it primes the immune response system, resulting in sufficient and broadly neutralizing antibodies that provide immunity against HIV.

Overshadowing current therapeutic drug and vaccine methods that only slow the progression of the disease, PhotoImmune's methodology, when demonstrated in lab trials, will provide immunity from the disease.

Dr. Allan Goldstein, Chairman of the Department of BioChemistry and Molecular Biology at the George Washington University, Medical Center stated, "The uniqueness of using a photo-labeling technique to inactivate the HIV virus while preserving the integrity and antigenic configuration of the AIDS virus offers, in my opinion, the best opportunity to date to overcome the hurdle which has prevented the development of an effective AIDS vaccine."

"PhotoImmune is positioned to implement its in vitro/in vivo protocol under the direction of Dr. Mark Wainberg at McGill University, AIDS Centre, Jewish Community Hospital, in Montreal," said Dallas Anderson, the company's president and CEO. "Dr. Adan Rios, Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer is renowned in the field of AIDS research and his patented methodologies are the result of a commitment to finding a preventative HIV-AIDS vaccine to this worldwide epidemic."

According to the US Dept. of Health and Human Services, nearly 500,000 in the US and 25 million worldwide have died since the HIV virus was identified. Across the globe, 14,000 more become infected daily. In the US, it is the fifth leading cause of death for those age 25-44. No demographic is left unscathed: 19 percent of all new HIV infections occur in Latinos and AIDS ranks as the number one cause of death among African-American males. Today, more than 13 million children under the age of 15 have lost one or both of their parents to AIDS, most in sub-Saharan Africa.

PhotoImmune Biotechnology, Inc. is a Houston-based company dedicated to eradicating HIV and AIDS through a novel vaccine that utilizes photo-labeling to render the virus permanently and irreversibly inactive. Led by clinical and management experts, PhotoImmune will look to demonstrate its "proof of method" and then seek to partner with a biopharma company with infectious diseases as a strategic initiative.
