Business Wire - August 23, 2005
"Today's teens are not only fashion savvy but they are more socially conscious than ever before. With the A-list celebrity and fashion brands that we carry, it was only natural for us to reach out to these stars and designers and partner with them for a cause that talks to teens about the future of their generation," says Peter Sachse, Macy's Corporate Marketing President and Chief Marketing Officer.
Adds Marshall Stowell, Deputy Director, YouthAIDS, "Macy's Back to School Denim Auction is another great example of Macy's ongoing commitment to fight HIV/AIDS. Not only is Macy's demonstrating corporate leadership, but they are helping to educate young people and raise much needed funds for YouthAIDS programs here and abroad."
Some of the designers, celebrities and celebrity stylists lending their flair to these denim pieces include such style icons and image-makers as JLO, P. Diddy, Patricia Field, Kimora Lee Simmons, Rachel Roy, Damon Dash, Nikki Hilton, Donna Karan, and Kenneth Cole. In addition, Mischa Barton, The Killers, Chris Beckman of Polo Jeans, Kim Smith of Guess?, Italo Zucchelli of Calvin Klein, and Olympic Medalists Misty May, Elaine Youngs, Mike Lambert, Eric Fonoimoana, as well as, the editors of Teen Vogue have pitched in their fashion design two cents for this worthy cause.
These wearable works of art have been stonewashed, deconstructed, distressed, hand-painted, paint splattered, studded, shredded, embroidered, embossed, and frayed to reflect a unique look that can't be found anywhere else. Loaded up with lapel pins, decals, chains, belts, rhinestones, appliques, and macrame, the dish on these denim pieces is that they are so unique that the celebrity designers themselves don't even have one hanging in their own closets.
Each denim piece will be a unique reflection of their sense of style. There'll be items in blue denim or black denim, light and dark washes. Trendsetters will be able to slip into a pair of custom-designed glam jeans by JLO, step into a pair of autographed Keds by Mischa Barton or grab hold of Donna's denim handbag that's been reworked from a pair of jeans! Each piece will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity and bids will start at $50. For those who can't wait to get the scoop on who'll be part of this elite fashion clique, there'll be a preview of the items on Macy's very own teen site, www.thisit.com/auction, beginning on August 11th.
