Computerized Screening, Inc. (CSI), today announced an agreement with the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to place a customized version of CSI's Health Station, an integrated health-screening device, in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County, California. DHHS is utilizing the bilingual (English/Spanish) Health Stations to increase HIV awareness among high-risk populations and provide accessible health screening, education and referral information to an estimated 60,786 individuals living with HIV/AIDS in these areas.

Preliminary results from the DHHS program show that public access to the Health Station encourages high-risk populations to seek additional information to improve their health status. The user-friendly Health Station provides organizations, such as DHHS, with an innovative strategy to increase access of prevention education and care to high-risk individuals. By utilizing a computer-based risk assessment form to generate a tailored message for each user, individuals receive educational messages on various diseases depending on their reported health risks. The Health Station serves as a customized resource directory, providing referral information for health and social services in any community. With telephone capabilities, the Health Station enables users to schedule medical or counseling appointments on the spot. In addition, organizations can offer incentives, such as gift certificates, to increase attendance at clinical appointments.

The Health Station accurately measures blood pressure, heart rate, Body Mass Index (BMI) and weight. Other non-invasive devices such as pulse oximetry and spirometry are also available as options. The system's patented blood pressure measurement technology is renowned as the most accurate, non-invasive, automated methodology in existence. It utilizes all three of the accepted non-invasive measurement techniques; auscultatory (sound), oscillometric (pressure) and pattern identification and analyzes 6,500 samples to determine a single blood pressure result. The Health Station also has telehealth capabilities, allowing users to communicate immediately with healthcare providers and transfer test results and information, insuring rapid response and treatment. The system also incorporates a Personal Medical Record feature, affording consumers the opportunity to compile data, store test results and review or print for physician visits.
The DHHS program is supported through funding from the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, Office of AIDS Programs and Policy. City, county or state outreach programs can incorporate Health Stations into their initiatives through funding provided by sources such as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Ryan White Funding or via Community Service Plans (CSP).
