WDI to Supply Smart Check HIV Tests to Dominican Republic

Business Wire - September 20, 2002

MIAMI LAKES, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2002--World Diagnostics, Inc. (OTCBB:WDGI), www.worlddiagnostics.com, a pioneering global provider of medical diagnostic tests and specialized laboratory products for the international marketplace, announced today that it will begin shipments of its Smart Check HIV rapid tests to the government of the Dominican Republic. Shipments will commence on October 1, 2002, and will be managed by WDI's distribution partner Vanter S.A., in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Initial orders are for approximately of 40,000 units per month for a period of 12 months, representing about 480,000 tests annually.

"Because of our low cost threshold, (WDI is able to deliver these and other unit tests at less than $1.00 USD for Point of Care testing in emerging markets), we believe this makes us a leader in providing quality health care products at affordable prices to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS, and other infectious diseases such as Malaria, Dengue Fever, Tuberculosis and Hepatitis. WDI's Smart Check HIV rapid test is one of the few Point of Care HIV rapid tests to hold FDA Tier 1 Nation Status, enabling it to qualify through local government evaluations and approvals for sale in numerous countries throughout the world that include Jamaica, Trinidad, Nicaragua, Argentina, Nepal, Malaysia, Uganda, Zambia, Nigeria and South Africa.

"The expanding role of government approvals and purchase orders on a country by country basis has favorably impacted WDI's ability to gain recognition and new business from non-governmental organizations, ('NGO's'), in the private sector such as NGO Clinics, private for profit clinics and physician offices. WDI currently has pending approvals in Brazil for its Smart Check HIV rapid test, along with several other Point of Care tests, and is confident that it will commence business in Brazil this calendar year. In addition, WDI's wholly owned subsidiary World Diagnostics PTY SA, based in Johannesburg, South Africa, is well positioned to expand, based on the growing demand and acceptance in central and sub-Saharan African for rapid P.O.C infectious disease tests," commented Ken Peters, President and Founder of WDI.
