Prudential Insurance Liberalizes Underwriting Guidelines for Prostate Cancer and Hepatitis B and C

Business Wire - April 25, 2002

NEWARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2002--Prudential Financial, Inc. has announced new underwriting guidelines that liberalize the impaired risk ratings for Prostate Cancer, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.

The new rules apply to all life insurance policies issued by Pruco Life Insurance Company and Pruco Life Insurance Company of New Jersey.

"By learning more about certain diseases and how they can be treated effectively, we're able to regularly update our guidelines to keep pace with medical advances," said Dr. Joanne Mambretti, vice president and medical director, Prudential Insurance. "As a result, clients with these medical conditions have the peace of mind of knowing they can be insured at the best rates we can offer."

Individuals with a history of prostate cancer may be considered for life insurance after they have completed treatment, show no current evidence of disease and maintain a program of routine follow-up care.

For clients with Hepatitis B or C, recent research has led to improved treatment and more positive prognosis in a percentage of cases. The liberalized underwriting guidelines allow for distinctions in the ratings based on the level of impairment and prognosis.
