"The time has come to advance anonymous, at-home testing for HIV as a crucial component of HIV prevention programming, " said Dr. Allan P. Frank, medical director of Home Access Health Corporation. "Data published November 18th in The Journal of the American Medical Association shows at-home telemedicine HIV testing is being used by people at risk for HIV and by people who did not use other testing options. The data suggests that anonymous, at-home telemedicine testing for HIV would be a viable tool for use within a public health setting, especially to enhance the efficiency of current outreach programs and as a means to cost-effectively reach pregnant women and reducing perinatal transmission of HIV."
Based on this data, the Senate Appropriations Committee (S.2440) has directed the Health Services Resource Administration (HRSA) to evaluate and report on the benefits and costs of at-home telemedicine in FY'99 and to implement program changes as warranted based on the important fiscal, privacy and public health advantages this technology offers. The Committee has also requested demonstration projects using at-home telemedicine under Ryan White CARE Act Titles III and IV.
Home Access Express (results in three days) and Home Access (results in seven days) allow people to conveniently and anonymously test for HIV from the privacy of their home with test results clinically proven to be as accurate as HIV tests administered by doctors and hospitals. Data from the Home Access clinical trials has been peer reviewed and published in the American Medical Association's Archives of Internal Medicine (Vol. 157, 2/10/97).
Home Access Health is the leader in telemedicine providing fast and convenient at-home medical testing and consultation.
