(BW) ANTICORT Infacap in the Treatment of Romanian Children, HIV-Positives

BUSINESS WIRE; Tuesday, May 26, 1998

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 26, 1998--Steroidogenesis Inhibitors International (OTC/BB:STGI - news), makers of ANTICORT, the first drug developed specifically to counteract the immunodestructive effects of the hormone cortisol, Tuesday announced that it has submitted an investigational drug application to the Comisa de Medicamente (the Romanian equivalent of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration) requesting approval to commence a clinical study of the ANTICORT Infacap in the treatment of HIV-positive children.

This announcement follows a trip to Romania and the establishment of a Romanian subsidiary of STGI by Alfred T. Sapse, M.D., the company's founder and president.

Cortisol is a powerful hormone manufactured by the adrenal gland during times of stress. A growing body of scientific data confirms that prolonged high levels of cortisol can destroy the immune system and play a major role in AIDS, several forms of cancer and many diseases associated with old age.

ANTICORT is designed to counteract cortisol's immunosuppressive effect through an anti-cortisol action that improves the quality of the immune system. Preliminary clinical results submitted to AIDS World Conferences (Vancouver 1996, Marrakech 1995) serve to confirm ANTICORT's effectiveness.

In the United States, STGI has received FDA approval to commence a Phase Ib/Iia clinical study of ANTICORT for treating an HIV-positive adult population. A clinical study testing the effectiveness of the ANTICORT Infacap on 40 HIV-positive children is scheduled to begin in early September 1998, following Romanian regulatory approval. The study could be completed by April 1999.

Steroidogenesis Inhibitors International is a leader in the emerging cortisol/anti-cortisol pharmaceutical industry. The company has headquarters at 2001 E. Flamingo Blvd., Suite 100B, Las Vegas, Nev. 89119; telephone 702/735-7001; fax 702/737-7016; www.cortisol.com.
