(BW) Home Access Health World AIDS Day Observance Encourages Thousands of People To Test for HIV

BUSINESS WIRE; Thursday December 4, 12:26 pm EST

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.--(BW HealthWire)--Dec. 4, 1997--Thousands of people responded to the offer of a free Home Access(R) Express(TM) HIV test as part of a special 24-hour World AIDS Day observance conducted by Home Access Health Corporation, the leader in telemedicine. In just 24 hours, the Company received nearly $100,000 worth of orders for Home Access Express HIV tests from people calling 1-800-HIV-TEST and from the company's Internet website.

"People from 45 states and the District of Columbia called to take advantage of our offer," noted Jill Spooner, call center manager for Home Access Health Corporation. "Many people called in to order a test for a family member, friend, or partner."

This observance was part of the Company's ongoing corporate commitment to help provide testing to those most in need. In addition to every free test that was given away on Monday, a free matching kit will be donated to the National AIDS Fund for distribution to AIDS service organizations throughout the country.

"The National AIDS Fund is gratified to be the beneficiary of a successful promotion by Home Access Health," said B.J. Stiles, president and chief executive officer of the National AIDS Fund. "HIV testing is a key component of any effective HIV prevention and education program. Thus our nationwide network of community partners have identified local HIV/AIDS programs that will put the Home Access Express kits to immediate use where the need is great."

The mission of the National AIDS Fund is to reduce the incidence and impact of HIV/AIDS by promoting leadership and generating resources for effective community responses to the epidemic.

Also on December 1st, Home Access Health released to the public the first published account of national HIV seroprevalance and demographic data among home test users. Company president Richard Quattrocchi said the release of the data and the World AIDS Day promotion builds momentum for HIV home testing and counseling as an accurate and convenient alternative for people who want to take control of their personal health and well-being.

Single copies of the Home Access HIV Counseling and Testing Report are available from Home Access Health Corporation, 2401 West Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates, IL, 60195-5200 (or 1 800 HIV-TEST).
