(BW) Fort Lauderdale company earns Florida's first viatical license

BUSINESS WIRE - 44 Montgomery St, 39th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94104; Tel: (415) 986-4422; FAX: (415) 788-5335 - Friday, 4 April 1997.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BW HealthWire)--April 4, 1997--Fort Lauderdale-based Page & Associates Thursday was issued Florida's first license to provide viatical settlements to Florida residents.

Viatical companies provide accelerated life insurance settlements for terminally ill individuals and have been operating in Florida for more than eight years. Last year, working with industry representatives, the Florida Department of Insurance started regulating the industry by requiring existing companies to apply for licensing. After applying last November, Page & Associates Thursday was issued the first license.

"We believe this is a giant step for our industry and our company," said Scott Page, president of Page & Associates. "Florida now officially acknowledges our industry as a bona-fide player in personal finance, and we are proud that our company was the first to be recognized."

Individuals diagnosed with terminal illnesses can sell their life insurance policies before they die for a percentage of the policy's total value. This settlement money is often used to pay for medical expenses, housing and other needs.

Page & Associates is a national viatical company which provides accelerated life insurance settlements, financial advice and medical benefits to the terminally ill. Established in 1989, Page & Associates was one of the first viatical settlement companies in the United States.
