BUSINESS WIRE - 44 Montgomery St, 39th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94104; Tel: (415) 986-4422; FAX: (415) 788-5335 - Friday, 15 November 1996.
The study, U.S. DISPOSABLE MEDICAL GLOVES AND CONDOM MARKETS, found that in 1995, the disposable medical gloves market grew 6.8 percent, to $614.3 million; the condom industry realized 1.5 percent growth, to $196.4 million.
Increases can be attributed to a number of social factors and concerns.
The niche-oriented glove industry continues to gain momentum. Though raw materials suppliers increased prices in 1995, bulk purchasing retarded prices charged consumers.
Hospitals have converted from powdered to powder-free gloves; that trend is expected to continue. Hypoallergenic gloves remain a market mainstay; and polymer-coated gloves, a favorite because of the ease they are donned, are becoming popular among end-users.
Despite flat sales, condom price increases accounted for marginal revenue growth. The Frost & Sullivan report avers that fewer people are using condoms compared to three years ago. Domestic manufacturers have hit the wall in terms of varieties and choices of condoms; imported condoms are now a threat to domestic manufacturers. The female condom, while touted by the media, remains a niche market and is expected to experience sporadic growth.
This report by Frost & Sullivan details in length how and why some medical companies stand to gain -- and some to lose -- market shares. Its analysis provides significant strategic insight into the direction and velocity of the disposable glove and condom markets; companies receive recommendations for strategic action when purchasing this report, as well as a reliable source of continuing research by an international consulting firm dedicated to defining market problems, needs and opportunities.
