This patent is assigned to Yale University and is exclusively licensed to VION.
This compound, L-2', 3'-didehydro-dideoxy-5-fluorocytidine, also known as B-L-Fd4C, is one of a series of antiviral compounds licensed from Yale University by VION. B-L-Fd4C is a nucleoside analog. The compound shows potent inhibition against the replication of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) in combination with very low toxicity to the host cells (i.e., animal or human tissue).
At the Vector Securities Conference last month in Cambridge, England, VION's vice president, research and development, Dr. Terrence W. Doyle said that the compound has 12-20 times the potency of 3TC against HBV and HIV, and is capable of synergizing the activity of D4T and AZT against HIV.
VION is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering, developing and commercializing oncology and antiviral products. The Company's anticancer agent Promycin(TM) (porfiromycin) is currently in Phase III clinical trials.
