BUSINESS WIRE - 44 Montgomery St, 39th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94104; Tel: (415) 986-4422; FAX: (415) 788-5335 -

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 1996--The City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute recently announced that it will present a series of estate and financial- planning forums during October for attorneys, accountants and other financial-planning professionals.

Titled "Estate and Financial Planning Strategies for 1997, Financial Planning Through Philanthropy," the forums will feature expert speakers representing a number of Los Angeles' prestigious legal and professional firms. Included in the format will be breakout sessions with panelists skilled in the areas of charitable gift planning, tax law, real estate and estate planning.

"These seminars are designed to help professionals in the legal and financial communities better serve their clients," said Nina Madden Sabban of Hoffman, Sabban and Watenmaker, the forum's volunteer chairwoman.

"The `Investments in Hope' series will provide attorneys, accountants, trust officers and tax, estate and financial planners with sound, up-to-date information that they can share with those who seek their counsel."

According to Sabban, the speakers and moderators who will conduct the seminars are leaders in their fields who have themselves been moved by a philanthropic spirit.

The educational forum is a program of City of Hope's newly created Allied Professional Network, a network of estate planning counselors, financial planners and tax advisers who wish to expand their knowledge in charitable giving and provide enhanced client services. In turn, the network supports City of Hope's planned giving outreach efforts to its national constituency of supporters.

"Because of City of Hope's reputation for integrity and excellence, we were able to attract presenters with extensive speaking and writing experience," explained Sabban. "Even more impressive is the fact that these experts have volunteered their time in support of our efforts to reach others in the financial- planning community."

The featured speakers will be Douglas K. Freeman of Freeman, Freeman & Smiley LLP for the Tuesday, Oct. 22, workshop at the Beverly Hilton Hotel (9876 Wilshire Blvd.), Beverly Hills; and Michael S. Whalen of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison for the Thursday, Oct. 24, workshop at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel (1401 S. Oak Knoll Ave.), Pasadena.

Registration is $75, which may be paid by credit card, and includes reference materials. Continuing educational credit is provided. For more information, a list of lecturers and topics, or to register, call 800/232-3314.
