Asian premiere of 'Cocktail'

Bangkok Post - August 3, 2009

Chulalongkorn University's Dramatic Arts Department - along with support from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences' Health Consumer Protection Project and Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) - will be staging the Asian premiere of Cocktail, a play about the life and HIV drug development work of Dr Krisana Kraisintu.

Cocktail is an adaptation by Vincent LiCata (chemistry prof and playwright) and Ping Chong (lauded choreographer and playwright), which is based on their interviews with Dr Krisana. The play made its world premiere at Louisiana State University in 2007 to critical acclaim and more attention, especially in the US, to this exemplary pharmacist and humanitarian.

Portraying the role of Dr Krisana is stage acting and directing professor Bhanbhassa "Khru Ning" Dhubtien, the only Thai member of New York's the Actors' Studio.

Filling in the supporting roles are Khru Ning's colleagues: Threedow Aphaiwongs, Pornrat Damrhung, Dr Kulthida Maneerat and Dr Parida Manomaiphibul; professional actors Sirinuch Petchurai and Gandhi Anantakarn; in addition to undergraduate and graduate student thespians.

'Cocktail' will be performed from August 20 to 30 (except Mondays) at Studio 4, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, at 7pm daily with a 2pm matinee on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are 400 baht (200 baht for students with ID), available at CU Book Centre (Siam Square and Chamchuree Square). Call 02-218-4802, or email drama.arts@gmail.com.
