The activists are to meet Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai today to discuss the proposed review, even though the Administrative Court has already ruled in favour of the board.
A network of people living with HIV/Aids and kidney problems and consumer advocates say they want to discuss the appointments as part of the policy on access to medical treatment.
"Having a board chairman with experience and vision will help the agency drive a policy on access to essential medicine," said Nimit Tien-udom, chairman of the AIDS Access Foundation.
"But looking at this new chairman's profile, we have to accept that he doesn't have any experience whatsoever."
The new chairman is Thirachai Wuthitham, a former manager of the national football team who was appointed by the Samak Sundaravej cabinet to chair the GPO.
Rawai Poopaka, of the GPO employee union, has also asked the health minister to review the board proposed by former public health minister Chaiya Sasomsab.
However, Mr Witthaya has not yet made a decision, saying the appointment of Mr Thirachai was above board.
Mr Chaiya last May sacked Vichai Chokewiwat, the GPO board chairman, and appointed Mr Thirachai in his place. He also nominated the other board members.
Dr Vichai contested his removal with the Administrative Court, accusing Mr Chaiya of abusing his authority in dismissing him and the other board members without explanation.
In June, the court handed down an injunction to reinstate Dr Vichai and the five other board members.
But on Dec 26, the court revoked the injunction, confirming the appointment of Mr Thirachai and the new board.
The board led by Mr Thirachai will meet GPO executives today.
