A total of 553 officers attached to Special Branch Police are being deployed to ensure security during the event, according to SBP commissioner Pol Lt Gen Prung Boonpadung.
The officers are divided into two groups _ one group guarding the meeting venue and hotel accommodation and the other providing security to VIPs.
Security measures against terror attacks are being taken on a normal basis while extra-tight security will be stepped up for country leaders.
Up to 15,000 delegates including country leaders and celebrities are expected to attend. Pol Lt-Gen Prung said rallies were expected, but no major events that might disrupt the conference. "So far activists have protested against high registration fees and the prices of anti-viral drugs," he said.
