V-1 IMMUNITOR: FDA says 'no' again

Bangkok Post - July 5, 2001

The Food and Drug Administration yesterday again refused to register V-1 Immunitor as a food supplement for HIV/Aids patients, reasoning that equipment used in its production was still short of required standards.

Four FDA officials went to the Jirasathaporn Co factory producing the substance in Bang Pakong district of Chachoengsao for the second time to examine the production standards. The FDA did not register the substance in the first inspection because some components of the equipment being used were found to be old and rusty.

After yesterday's inspection, one of the officials said most of the production equipment was now of the required standards except for the ingredients mixer.

Vichai Jirathitikal, inventor of V-1 Immunitor, said corrections will be made to the mixer as advised. A request for registration of the substance would be re-submitted to the FDA next week, he said.

More than 1,000 HIV patients flock daily to the firm's Ban Bang Pakong clinic in Bang Pakong district toreceive free Aids treatment comprising the pills.
