Centre offers one-hour HIV test

BBC News - July 30, 2009

A new sexual health centre, which offers HIV testing in one hour, has opened in Nottingham city centre.

The facility, on Barker Gate, is run by the Terrence Higgins Trust and funded by the NHS, city and county councils.

It will offer a weekly clinic, and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases.

The centre is being run by Mick Mason, who contracted HIV in the 1980s after being treated with contaminated blood products as a haemophiliac.

Mr Mason said: "It will now be much easier for people living with HIV to get all the help and support they need under one roof.

"With approximately one in four people living with HIV unaware that they have the virus, it's crucial that we do all we can to make it easier and quicker to have an HIV test."

People living with HIV will also be offered counselling, as well as alternative therapies including aromatherapy, reflexology and Indian head massages.
