Natalie and Ian Westwell took in five-year-old S'bahle after being struck by the plight of youngsters at a children's home in South Africa.
The couple, from Roos, now want to set up a charity to help other children in South Africa orphaned by the virus.
Mrs Westwell said the charity would be called S'bahle's Smile.
Since bringing their daughter to East Yorkshire, the couple said they had had to overcome many obstacles.
'Healthy life'
"We'd always decided we'd be as open and honest as we could be about HIV," said Mrs Westwell.
"There was a lot of concern among parents because they knew S'bahle would be going to the school so it was really just about getting out there and trying to educate them and show them it's nothing to be frightened of.
"It made me more determined to get out there and get people to love S'bahle for the child she is and not be worried about HIV."
Mrs Westwell said when they first met S'bahle she had been two percent off developing Aids.
But she received life-saving medication at Sheffield Children's Hospital and doctors now hope she will go on to live a full and healthy life.
Mrs Westwell added: "Through the writing of articles and books I hope to let people know S'bahle's story, so they will understand the human emotion and discrimination that is behind every case of HIV."
