Mark James, 47, from Burgess Hill in West Sussex, was sentenced to three years and four months in jail when he failed to appear in court in August.
Police have been looking for him since he first missed a court date in July.
A nationwide hunt has so far failed to find James and the Metropolitan Police said the search was now international.
James, of Park Road, Burgess Hill, is thought to be the first gay man convicted of recklessly passing on the virus.
He had admitted causing grievous bodily harm but then unsuccessfully tried to change his plea, based on the allegation he had received poor legal advice.
Domestic violence
He went missing between pleading guilty and his sentencing.
The businessman did not tell his 38-year-old partner he had been diagnosed with the HIV virus.
He continued having unprotected sex even though he had been told in April 2004 that he had the virus.
The crime came to the attention of the police when they were investigating allegations of domestic violence made by James' partner.
The Metropolitan Police have said they are committed to ensuring that James is tracked down and put before the court so he can be held responsible for his actions.
They said their inquiries led them to believe James had spent time in France.
