Pitt was in Ethiopia from Friday to Monday for "a listening and learning visit" that involved visiting local health projects.
He called on people to "educate ourselves and our friends", and said pharmaceutical companies must make drugs more affordable and governments should give more funding to find a cure.
Ethiopian singer Tsedenia Gebremarkos, who met the actor, said Pitt was "very humble and really interested in the situation here".
More than 17 million Africans have died from Aids and another 25 million are infected with the HIV virus, according to lobby group Data.
