Malawian woman jailed for raping boy

BBC News - Wednesday, 10 October, 2001

A court in Malawi has sentenced a 60-year-old woman, who is HIV positive, to seven years in jail for raping an 11-year-old boy in August.

The boy only revealed to his parents that the woman, Emmie Nkumbira, had forced him to have sex with her after he developed sores and pain in his genitals.

The Malawian court heard that after Mrs Nkumbira was arrested and examined medically, she was found to have both syphillis and the HIV virus, which leads to Aids.
