AIDS Action dedicates AIDS Walk to Kessler

Bay Windows - March 30, 2006

Larry Kessler may be retiring from the AIDS Action Committee on April 30, but his presence will be felt at AIDS Action's 21st annual AIDS Walk Boston, to be held June 4. In honor of Kessler's work as the agency's founder and longtime executive director AIDS Action is dedicating the walk to Kessler and launching Larry's Team, a team of walkers, including Kessler himself, who will lead this year's walk. AIDS Action will also rename the 3.5 mile fundraising run that takes place on the same day the Larry Kessler Run in honor of Kessler.

"It will be intensely profound to see Larry's Team lead thousands of Walkers on June 4, and we are honored to offer friends, colleagues, former volunteers, staff and Board members - and anyone who has been touched by Larry and his work - an opportunity to thank him and help continue his legacy," said AIDS Action Executive Director Rebecca Haag.

The AIDS Walk and Run has long been AIDS Action's largest fundraising event, drawing in more than 10,000 participants each year and raising more than $30 million since its inception. The event is one of the first AIDS walks in the country.

This year's walk will also mark a major milestone in the HIV/AIDS epidemic, as the event takes place 25 years after AIDS was first identified.

Participants can register from now up until the day of the walk and run by calling 617-424-WALK or visiting www.aidswalkboston.org. For information on joining Larry's Team visit www.aac.org/larrysteam.
