Wake up call

Bay Windows - April 21, 2005

Nearly 150 community activists and community members affected by HIV/AIDS attended the annual Bayard Rustin Community Breakfast, now in its 16th year, last Saturday. The breakfast, which was titled "Bittersweet 16: Wake Up, Everybody!" was held at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum, and was created by AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts to recognize the role of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgender people from communities of color in the AIDS epidemic. The event opened with an invocation and calling of names by the Reverend Irene Monroe, and featured a keynote address from Harold Cox, chief public officer for the City of Cambridge. Senator Dianne Wilkerson, David Hawksworth, and Keith Cylar (posthumously) were honored.
