Mr. Wilson, a long-term HIV survivor, died of lung cancer November 9. He was 61.
The memorial, dubbed "Thanks to Hank," is sponsored by the GLBT Historical Society. Mr. Wilson devoted 35 years of community service and activism - for LGBT people, people living with HIV, poor people, and others - and touched many in the community and he planted seeds that grew into many of the organizations that serve San Franciscans today, noted colleague Randy Alfred.
The Thanks to Hank celebration will feature various organizations showing tangible displays of Mr. Wilson's contributions. People are encouraged to participate by expressing gratitude in writing, by recording a "Thanks to Hank" message on video, or in other imaginative ways.
