AEF nears $25 million

Bay Area Reporter - July 26, 2007

What started as a small grassroots effort in Rick Booth's living room 25 years ago has grown in dollars (not administrative overhead) as the AIDS Emergency Fund marked its anniversary with a gala at the Marriott Hotel Saturday, July 21. Booth, left, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by board President Cynthia Hester and Executive Director Mike Smith. Smith noted that the agency, which provides emergency financial assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS, will distribute its 25-millionth dollar of aid on or about August 7. For his part, Booth said that AEF has helped "thousands of people" and is "one of the best things San Francisco has ever done." For more on the evening, see Donna Sachet's On the Town column.
