The Academy of Friends, producer of the annual Oscar gala that raises money for HIV/AIDS organizations, has announced that agencies may apply now for funding from next year's event.
This year, AOF distributed $500,000 to numerous organizations throughout the Bay Area from its 2006 gala and associated fundraisers.
Applications and funding guidelines for 2007 are available at www.AcademyofFriends.org. The organization welcomes requests for proposals from eligible agencies in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Sonoma counties. The deadline for submitting a completed RFP is July 19.
In other AOF news, the organization elected board officers and committee chairs. They are: Alan E. Keith, chair; Scott E. Miller, vice chair; Nanette Duffy, gala chair; Steven H. Weiler, treasurer; Michele Nessier, secretary; and Charles Bello and J. Douglas Piper, members at large. The 2007 AOF committee chairs are: Gregg G. Solem, beneficiaries and production; Scott Miller, development; Weiler, finance; Scott Bates, governance; Richard Wortman, marketing; Jon Finck, public relations; Robert Pinnix, raffle; and Piper and Rob Murray, silent auction.
Newly elected board members are: Randy Brasche, Raymond Brizendine, Neil Cohen, Robby Combs, Deborah Doyle, Howard Edelman, Patricia Farrar-Rivas, Bill Gunn, David Miranda, and George Rosenfeld. Returning members are: Arthur Goodrich, Hugo Lai, Brandy J. Lowe, Richard S. O'Connell, B.J. Stiles, and Tom Stroik.
AIDS grove workdays
The National AIDS Memorial Grove has summer and fall workdays lined up, and interested volunteers are welcome to participate. Upcoming days are: July 15, August 19, September 16, and October 21.
