World AIDS Day in SF

Bay Area Reporter - December 8, 2005

Sean Strub, an activist and founder of Poz magazine, gave a powerful keynote address at the World AIDS Day observance December 1 at the National AIDS Memorial Grove in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Never one to shy away from controversial topics, Strub took leading AIDS service organizations to task, saying many of them have lost their grassroots activism. One big reason for that, Strub said, is because unlike back in the 1980s when people living with AIDS controlled the organizations, that is no longer the case. He urged ASOs to adopt a plan mandating that at least half of their board members be people with HIV, including clients. "It's a worthy and essential goal," he said.
