The merchants united after BAY Positives suffered a large cutback in funding to support its operations. They developed the concept for the block party fundraiser together with BAY Positives, combining a unique, eclectic blend of entertainment, as well as an auction directly benefiting young people hit by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
"This event promises to be an outlandish party," according to Seana O'Farrell, member advocate for BAY Positives, "with a fashion and hair show, fire performers, a sitar player, and celebrity guest auctioneer Angela Alioto." Hairdoo Voodoo, Caf Bean There, and W.A.K. Shack are holding the hair and fashion show, and the auction reception will follow the event. The auction will feature a range of hot items from a night at a Calistoga Bed and Breakfast, to Henna tattooing.
"The agency has been through many challenges in recent years, but nothing quite like the need for money to support our valuable agency," O'Farrell added. "Through fundraising and community involvement, BAY Positives can continue to provide its services to all young people living with HIV/AIDS."
The event will take place along the 500 block of Waller Street and inside the BAY Positives agency; inside Caf Bean There; and also inside Hairdoo Voodoo. The cost is $50 for both the hair/fashion show and the auction reception, or $15 for the auction reception only.
