Lights to be dimmed in Illinois for AIDS Day

Associated Press - November 30, 2008

CHICAGO - Lights in the Illinois State Capitol rotunda in Springfield and at the Thompson Center in Chicago will be dimmed for 15 minutes on Monday to observe World AIDS Day.

The remembrance will be from 6:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

State statistics from October show that just more than 34,500 people living in Illinois have HIV or AIDS. Records show the number of new diagnoses in the state have decreased since 2005.

Dr. Damon T. Arnold is the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. He says that everyone should be tested for HIV and AIDS.
