Bulgaria, Libya, EU Agree Fund For Libyan AIDS Children

SOFIA, Bulgaria - Bulgarian and European Union officials have agreed with Libya to set up an international fund to offer financial assistance to the families of AIDS-infected children in the Libyan city of Benghazi, Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry said Friday.

The move was part of international efforts to secure the release of five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor sentenced to death by a Libyan court for allegedly intentionally infecting some 400 children with HIV.

An appeals hearing of the case was scheduled for Dec. 25
