The money will be provided over five years through UNAIDS - the United Nations AIDS program - and the Indian government to reduce the risk and impact of the HIV virus, which causes AIDS, in the northeastern states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said.
"This initiative will target the most vulnerable to infection in the northeast - children, sex workers, drug users and their partners," Downer told a World AIDS Day launch in Canberra.
The money will be used for AIDS education, prevention and care, Downer said.
India has an estimated 5 million people infected with HIV - the largest number in any country except South Africa, he said.
