The announcement came in advance of World AIDS Day on Saturday.
The 183-nation lending organization said the loans would go to African countries, home to an estimated 25 million of the 36 million HIV-positive people worldwide.
The World Bank and the U.N. AIDS Program estimate that approximately $3 billion is needed every year to fund basic prevention, care and treatment programs in Africa.
The bank said it has committed more than $1.7 billion to fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS. In addition to financial support, the bank is helping developing countries put HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment efforts in the forefront of their strategies to reduce poverty.
