Municipal Hospital in Bronx Fined on Care of AIDS Victim

Associated Press - January 15, 1986

ALBANY, Jan. 15 - Bronx Municipal Hospital has been fined $31,000 for not providing adequate care last year to a man suffering from AIDS, State Health Department officials said today.

A spokesman for the department, Peter Slocum, said Bronx Municipal had "failed to provide services" to the 39-year-old man with AIDS. The patient was hospitalized there from late February until early May, when he went home.

Susan Halpin, a spokesman for the city's Health and Hospitals Corporation, which runs the hospital, said the agency had no comment. The department said $24,000 of the fine had been suspended because Bronx Municipal had developed a plan to train its staff on the proper care of AIDS patients.
