The director, Dr. Roger Enlow, is returning to private practice after 17 months as head of the unit, which was created to fight the disease AIDS, said a Health Department spokesman, Marvin Bogner.
Dr. Enlow's letter of resignation would be ready Monday, Mr. Bogner said.
Dr. Enlow was appointed on March 9, 1983, to establish the program. Its task was to try to identify existing programs that could be restructured to help the city's homosexual community avoid Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
