Genf, 3. März (AFP) - Die Anzahl der HIV-Infizierten in der Generation über 50 Jahre ist nach Angaben der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) "erstaunlich hoch". Nach dem am Dienstag veröffentlichten WHO-Monatsbericht ist die Zahl der mit dem Aids-Erreger Infizierten in dieser Altersstufe vielerorts gestiegen. In den USA nahm der Anteil der über-50-jährigen Infizierten zwischen 2003 und 2006 von 20 Prozent auf 25 Prozent zu, in Brasilien verdoppelte sich dieser zwischen 1996 und 2006. Dort sind momentan 15,7 Prozent aller Infizierten älter als 50 Jahre. In Europa liegt dieser Wert bei acht Prozent.
Allerdings liegen nach Angaben der WHO relativ wenig Daten für diese Altersgruppe vor. Das liege daran, dass ältere Menschen nicht als Risikogruppe gelten und Aids als "Krankheit der Jüngeren" betrachtet wird. Die Autoren der Studie führen die zunehmende Verbreitung von Potenzmitteln als Grund für den Anstieg der älteren HIV-Infizierten an. Gleichzeitig neigten Ältere eher zu ungeschütztem Geschlechtsverkehr. Je später ein Mensch sich mit dem HI-Virus infiziert, desto schneller führt dies zum Ausbruch von Aids.
