Paris, 24. September (AFP) - Rund 16 Millionen Menschen weltweit spritzen sich nach Schätzungen von Wissenschaftlern Rauschgift, und etwa jeder fünfte davon ist mit dem Aids-Virus infiziert. Einer am Mittwoch auf der Website der Wissenschaftszeitschrift "The Lancet" veröffentlichten Studie zufolge hängen weltweit rund 15,9 Millionen Menschen an der Nadel, etwa drei Millionen von ihnen sind HIV-positiv. Am höchsten ist die Zahl der Drogensüchtigen, die sich Rauschgift spritzen, in China: Hier hängen rund 2,35 Millionen Menschen an der Nadel, 15,6 Prozent von ihnen sind mit Aids infiziert. An zweiter Stelle folgen die USA mit 1,86 Millionen Süchtigen, die sich Drogen spritzen und Russland mit 1,83 Millionen.
Besonders hoch ist der Anteil der HIV-positiven Süchtigen dem Bericht zufolge in Estland, der Ukraine, Birma, Indonesien, Thailand, Nepal, Argentinien, Brasilien und Kenia, wo jeweils mehr als 40 Prozent infiziert sind. Die Autoren der Studie betonten, dass das Spritzen von Drogen mittlerweile einer der wichtigsten Verbreitungswege von Aids sei. Hier müsse mehr in die Prävention investiert werden, beispielsweise durch den kostenlosen Austausch von Spritzen und Kanülen sowie durch Heroin-Ersatzprogramme.
