Kuala Lumpur, 2. Februar (AFP) - Langschwanz-Makaken dürfen jetzt doch nicht zum Verzehr aus Malaysia ausgeführt werden. Eine Untersuchung des Umweltministeriums habe ergeben, dass mindestens 80 Prozent der Affen in den Städten an Tuberkulose, Malaria, Hepatitis oder AIDS litten, sagte Umweltminister Azmi Khalid am Samstag der Zeitung "New Straits Times". Die Affen gelten in Asien und in einigen westlichen Ländern bei manchen Menschen als Delikatesse.

Im August wurde in Malaysia ein 23-jähriges Exportverbot für Langschwanz-Makaken aufgehoben. Die Affen hatten sich zur Plage entwickelt, stahlen Lebensmittel und griffen Menschen an. Rund 250.000 Makaken leben in den Städten des Landes, insgesamt wird die Affen-Population auf 700.000 geschätzt.
